An open letter...

Dear Mr. President,

I watched the election results, as you did, on Tuesday evening, November 2nd and my heart sank.  For 20 months, you have attempted to do what is best for this nation with an eye towards compromise with the Republican Party.  I applaud you for your efforts.

As someone who sits outside the Beltway and about as far outside of politics as you can get, I have to tell you, from my perspective, you need to stop trying to compromise with the Republicans.  Continue to tell the electorate that you are going to try, because that is what the sound-bite media loves to put out there, but behind the scenes, blast them with everything you can muster.

Use your power of Executive Order to finally end Don't Ask Don't Tell.  Why?  Because it is the right thing to do.  Meet with the members of your own party and do what you attempted to do in the final days of the election cycle, show some Democratic backbone.  DO NOT allow the Bush tax cuts to continue in their entirety - fight for what you want - the Republican's are not interested in doing the country's business, so you must show them that YOU are.

Please, sir, I implore you, fight for your positions - point out to the American people what the Republicans want to do and how, at every opportunity.  Make them accountable for their actions.  It's time the Republicans got a taste of their own medicine, without stooping to their level, and the people of the U.S. got some true representation...not the kind paid for by the Republican Party and Citizen's United.

Thank you for your service and your consideration
