As the elections becoming more violent in nature, those in power struggling to remain so, and corporations pouring huge amounts of cash into political races thanks to the Citizen's United ruling by the Supreme Court near, I ponder the following:
For so long this country has been run by well-off white men. It was even founded by a group of such well-off white men. When the Constitution was set forth, it was initially written without Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, or any other race or even gender being taken into consideration.
Here we are - we have a Black President. We have a racially mixed Supreme Court, now with three women sitting on the bench, making rulings that have the final word on how things will be here in the United States. I have got to believe that this does not sit well with those who have had the power for so long. No, I'm thinking this is really pissing them off.
When you follow the money trail behind the major parties, especially the GOP, you find that there are big corporate interests - people like the Koch brothers. While they like to stay out of the limelight, they love to feed the fire. Who do you think pays for those speakers to speak at all those rallies? What, you thought they did it for free?!?!?
What I see happening, is that the white men who have been in power for so long are losing their grip on said power and are so ticked off about it that they are willing to do just about anything to keep their reign. When you hear people talk about 2nd amendment remedies if they don't get what they want, you gotta ask yourself - is this what we have come to as a nation? IS the next step going to be a coup to take over the presidency? Or, worse yet, has this fringe-that-has-become-not-so-fringe gotten to the point where someone will not think twice about pulling a Lee Harvey Oswald?
I believe this is the last gasps of the white-male power structure resisting the change that is inevitable. Inevitable, in that the fabric of this country has changed and no longer is white dominant. It is a type of change not unlike that South Africa witnessed with the
dismantling of apartheid. We are seeing the same type of push-back from the existing power structure when in fact a new power structure is emerging - a more forward thinking, more inclusive, more blended and more World driven structure. It is coming...you can resist it, but it will happen - let's hope without bloodshed.
